It is a welded steel junction box with a lift-off clamped cover that keeps out falling dirt, dust, oil and dripping water. Typical uses include instrument housings, electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic controls, and terminal wiring.

NEMA 12 Steel Junction Box with Lift-Off Cover Features
