489A (110 Connector) and 489B (66 Block) Protectorsrs
This series of protectors is now part of the Comscope Exchangemax product
line.
You can see this new line here.
Avaya’s 489 A and 489 B protectors are designed for use wherever
outside plant (OSP) cables enter the building. The unit provides
over-voltage protection between cables and sensitive electrical devices.
The terminal weighs 30 percent less than the comparable 189 or 188. A
wide range of convenient, interchangeable, UL® Listed or Rural
Electrification Administration (REA) approved plug-in protector units
provide the necessary voltage protection. Hinged, lockable covers are
standard and provide additional mechanical protection and security.
Available in 25-, 50-, 100-, and 200-pair sizes, the 489A & B
Protector offers two output options:
- The 489A features 110-Type connecting blocks.
- The 489B uses the 66-Type connecting block.
The 489A & B Building Entrance Protector features a generous splice
chamber with cable pass-through. Removable grommets allow easy cable
placing and splicing when the terminals are stacked. Outside plant cable
is terminated on one of two input options:
- For smaller pair counts (<300 pairs), the OSP cable can be
terminated in the splice chamber with a 110-Block (489A version),
66-Block (489B version), 710 or 3M splice connector.
- In the splice chamber, a No. 6 ground strap, with eyelet for
connection to the shield of the OSP cable, is connected to the
protector grounding network.
- For larger installations a 25’ swivel stub provides the ability to
splice at an adjacent location.
Features and Benefits
Lightweight
Terminal weighs 30 percent less than comparable models.
Side Exits
Additional side exits and common trough (489A version) facilitate dressing
and tracing of customer wire.
Common positive grounding
Two built-in three-wire ground connectors facilitate termination of ground
wire and strapping of adjacent protectors.
Unique Internal Wiring
Input/output wire separator prevents protector bypass in high-current
conditions.
New 200-pair size
Uses the multi-layer version of the 489-Type plastic housing and has same
"footprint" as the 100-pair size.
Optimize safety
The 489 A & B protector panel terminals are gold-plated for superior
connections and accept interchangeable, 5-pin type plug-in protector units
for greater flexibility.
Minimize wall space
The modular 489 chassis can be mounted directly on top of other 489s so
the units are easily "stackable," minimizing wall space and
simplifying installation. Cable pass-through features allow for a compact
installation and natural mechanical protection for the cable. Multiple
3-wire ground connectors facilitate termination of a No. 6 ground wire,
and strapping adjacent units together provides common positive grounding.
